In your hands, a crisp new record. Still sealed in a barrier of plastic shielded from the outside world, it is in perfect condition. But that's no way for music to live, so carefully you slice the opening of the record cover. As your heart flutters with the excitement of a child on Christmas morning, you peek inside to find not only the album but a colorful insert which shares the names and lyrics of the melodies that are to soon to climb into the air and fill the room. Delicately, with the skill of someone deactivating a time bomb you remove the record from its cover and place it on your record player. After lightly plucking up the needle from where it rested, you prepare to experience the pure sounds of the artists creation. The crackle from the needle to vinyl sounds like embers jumping up and dancing in a fire. The music begins, and the concerns of the day end. For in this moment of the present, is the gift of sound.
I can't help but to find myself inspired by this man, as music and visual arts are synonymous. The first illustration used above is a drawing I made while Miwi and I were driving from New York to Omaha, Nebraska. I used the side profile of his lips and nose as a reference, added the wolf headdress from imagination and his name into the engraving on the medallion. The wolf is a reoccurring symbol throughout his life, his music, and consequentially my art. The second illustration, is a portrait of the wolf himself. This year in January of 2016 Miwi flew over to London to begin a tour which features his latest EP, "Beginners Guide." After he finishes his European tour this busy wolf will be releasing another new album, where an art piece of mine (shown on the left of the text ) will be featured on the cover! It is truly a privilege to work with such talented people. Just like the story's shared in these albums, my art takes its own journey.
Miwi La Lupa (vocals, and acoustic guitar), Jessica Hume (Bass and backup vocals), Conor Elmes(Drums), Tim Allen(Guitar)
